Google Pixel and Pixel XL may not have set the sales record afire, but that does not mean the search giant is giving up their hardware dreams. Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will be released tonight by the company at an event. It is clear that Google invests in this project in the long run. It has already announced the acquisition of a part of  HTC's engineering team, which includes people working on the Pixel series.

As with previous Pixel phones, the leaks have given us a pretty good look at the upcoming smartphones, though we will have to wait for the official release to see what turns out to be true. However, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will also continue with premium price tag we saw on previous devices. Google Pixel started in India at a price of Rs 57,000,  while the larger Pixel XL had a price of Rs 67,000 for the base variant of 32GB. This type of pricing meant that when the Pixel phones were launched they were directly competing with the likes of Samsung Galaxy S series and Apple iPhone 7, etc.

While Pixel offered the best specifications and a camera could not stop raving about, the fact is that there was nothing that really make Pixel phones stand out from their  mid-range rivals. Yes, Pixel phones come with Android stock and were among the first phones that have the Google Assistant. But players like OnePlus have also adopted a more  stock UI Android approach. Then there is the list of Motorola phones, which has always sported Android stock. And Google's assistant soon launched into the entire Android universe, which meant that the exclusivity aspect of Pixel phones soon got lost. With the Pixel series, Google says it's in the game of hardware for a long time.
